Science Communication & Careers Beyond the Bench

Dear NYC SciComm Community,

Effectively communicating science is a crucial skill for a wide range of careers both in academia and beyond the bench. Are you interested in learning more from professionals in diverse careers in science communication and industry? Please join the Einstein Women’s Networking Group at our upcoming event – Science Communication and Careers Beyond the Bench Thursday, November 30th at 5:00 PM in Price Auditorium (1301 Morris Park Ave. Bronx, NY).

Together with NYC Science Communication and the Einstein Graduate Division we will be hosting Jamie Talan, MPH  to give our keynote address followed by a panel discussion and networking reception with our panelists!

Jamie Talan has spent almost forty years as a science journalist – for the first 25 years as a staff writer for Newsday, and the last decade for Neurology Today. Seven years ago, she started an art & literary magazine called Narrateur and joined Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, where she is now an assistant professor of science education. Narrateur will be publishing its seventh issue this Spring.

Five years ago, this life-long New Yorker packed a U-Haul truck and drove with her husband across country to a new land and a new life in Boise, Idaho. Now, she has the best of both worlds: a beautiful ranch with cows, sheep, and horses, as well as her writing career. Earlier this year, Jamie spent six months on a dementia fellowship at UCSF. This summer, she started an international lecture series on posterior cortical atrophy and the first national online support group for patients and their caregivers.
